A Future To Believe In
Good news, everyone! The torched has been passed on to Zavaro and I. Our goal is to hopefully steer the NSL community back from its current downward spiral. Natural Selection has always suffered from an issue of split communities. Natural Selection splintered with the creation of Combat, and NS2 suffered a similar fate with various modes of play including spin off games and Comp Mod. The barrier for entry was extremely low, but regardless, these slight changes between modes created a distinct dissonance for players keen on the complexities of the game. So, for the future: instead of relying on heavily modified builds of NS2 we will be playing with vanilla balance as we have before, coupled with NSL mod, and NS2+.
Since game balance is in swing due to Unknown World’s experimentations with the game, we will be postponing any seasonal based leagues for the time being. In the meantime, the NSL will be hosting a Newcomer’s Tournament within the upcoming weeks to both fill the ranks and repopularize competitive Natural Selection 2. More details and signups will be available in the next few days for this event.
Gathers are still available to be played, but the servers are stretched thin. We’ve requested access to a few which have been kindly donated by WasabiOne (Chicago), Kaneh (Toronto), and others. We hope that in the next few days we can hammer out the server deficit and have clearer areas of play for European players as well as more localized nodes for Oceania (you are not forgotten Ausland and Asia!).
In addition to Natural Selection 2 Gathers, there is the possible intent to add Overwatch gathers due to popular appeal. It does not mean that we will be making a league or ladder for this, and in the meantime please refrain from utilizing the current gather system for Overwatch based play.
I pray this provides hope and new beginnings for the future of Natural Selection 2 competitive, and puts many fears and league-related disappointments to rest. Let’s continue as a community to bite res and flash fades.

The community was so small during the good times that unless you convince all the old players to come back simultaneously, this is little to no chance of getting enough new people to replace them instead.
There have been too many mistakes made along the way for a recovery and the game is too old by the avg gamer's standards. Your enthusiasm is commendable, but the glory days are over - time to let it go and remember the game for what it was and not the state it's in.

thats the thing when you cant play the game on any server as its meant to be played, 6v6.
there are only a few low slot servers and when there is no competition on them (different low slot servers) you end up with shitty ones, a sad result of an overall low player count...
w/e doesnt matter its his server he is free to make it as unpleasant an experience as possible.
future as in new players come and keep playing the game and playercount rises longterm, and there wont be such a thing.

Let it go and turn it into a PUG/Ladder site or something if you're intent on keeping some form of organized play alive.

And as for the overwatch gathers nothing is confirmed in that regard. And that is why we mentioned there is some talk upon adding it. Because i do agree with you, it is the NSL not NOWSL. But even if we do add the OW gathers itll just be for the accessibility, we would never be creating a league or ladder for the game.

If i remember correctly before all the compmod tweaks it was only marines wins in prem div/div1 and only aliens wins in div 3/4. But with lower skill and the new updates maybe you'll find a middle ground.
lerk/fade egg spam, contamination res bite, rush exo, no pack play (respawn with nade + health bars), regen in combat, onos heal shield, fast re-lerk, 2 crush skulk rush cc, cyst spam, powersurge against feed gates or resbitters... why not, need to see it first.

Less seasons happened without CompMod than with it and they took place when the game was still young. CompMod carried it through the later years (S4 onward) and into much better gameplay. This is undeniably true from a competitive perspective. It's the only reason anyone that was actually decent in competitive stuck around. Everyone was fed up with the lack of skill and the huge imbalance involved in the strategies/tactics before Comp Mod hit.
"remember guise there were seasons before the mods" .. yea.. and they fucking sucked. 6 minute onos, fade eggs for dayzzz.. Tinki pretty much nailed most of the garbage.
The seasons didn't grow, they shrunk and the 100+ teams that were there fell of the face of the earth along with NS2's total playerbase.
Do what you want, but there is a reason people hated that shit and made a mod just to get rid of it.

UWE couldn't even balance the game properly for competitive with the B250 onset with some of the greatest minds within the community of NS2 influencing sewlek on changes. That's why CompMod was created shortly after the WC.
It's not negativity, it's just historical fact.

Sewlek's balance mod was left incomplete when it was merged into NS2 as he didn't have the time, energy and interest continuing to work on it. Compmod was essentially the culmination of those ideas in that project, and it turned out pretty great. I wish more of the Compmod changes get pushed into vanilla, as many of its ideas can provide solutions to many issues even public players face. I've been pushing for even basic intuitive-design things like ranged Lerk spores for two years internally, and I think soon, they may see the light of day.
For me, it's good to see the game evolving, but I understand completely where you're coming from. Some things are nasty to deal with, especially insta-Onos. You're not wrong, the idea is completely insane.

Now that my part is done in the community, I like to observe and post comments rather than make a difference... like the majority of the whinging folks.
Come play Clash though. I organized a small midweek tournament with more people in it than the number that still play NS2 at any one time. Or... continue complaining in forums and comment sections. Pretty sure I know your choice though. Cheers.
